The Qualifying Certificate (QC) enables you to perform volunteer lifeguard duties under supervision as well as first aid, but not perform water rescues or to compete.
What does a QC mean?
- QC stands for Qualifying Certificate. It is basically the same course as the LA except that you do not have to do the physical water events. With a QC you cannot compete in competition’s or do pro duty ( pro duty is when you get paid to do duties)
- QC is popular with adults and older members wishing to do the course but feel that the physical side might be a little daunting. If you qualify as a Q.C you can always upgrade and do the physical side to become a fully qualified LA (lifeguard)
You do not have to make the decision about the LA or QC at the start of the course, this can be determined during the course. if only doing the QC then you must still learn the basics of Malibu and torpedo rescue and must be able to demonstrate how it is done on dry land.
