Join us and “swim for something” at one of the most beautiful beaches in Cape Town – Llandudno. We will brave the Llandudno conditions in order to raise funds for our development portfolio – Development Through Sport.

Distances: 1 mile and 800m options (if conditions are perfect we might include a 3km swim)

Cost: R100 per swimmer, includes swim, safety, hot chocolate, braai and bar facilities after the event

Start time: 09h00 for registration; swim starts PROMPTLY 10h00

Plan B: will be set in place in case of adverse and dangerous conditions – we will not cancel or change the day of the swim – worst case we will do ins and outs of the ocean (test the swimmers fitness levels!)

Safety: NSRI, LSLC Lifesavers and Hout Bay ambulance at the event as well as Camps Bay community medics on standby

Prize giving: Stay for prize giving – some awesome prizes up for grabs

Llandudno Surf Lifesaving Club has invested a significant amount of its resources in creating a development programme (Development Through Sport) in order to provide valuable life skills to children from neighbouring underprivileged communities. With the assistance of local social workers, the programme provides swimming lessons to a number of children from Imizamo Yethu and teaches them basic water safety skills. Those that can demonstrate a sufficient level of competence in the swimming pool are introduced into the club nipper programme, where their skills are further developed with a view to training them to become qualified lifeguards and retain them as active club members. Since its inception four years ago, the development programme has already produced qualified nippers who are now competing at a national level.

The development programme is entirely self-funded and the club currently receives no corporate sponsorship or government grants in order to sustain the programme. The club hosts a quarterly swimming event series called the Llandudno Swim Series, the proceeds of which are used to cover the operating costs of the programme.
